Dr. Richard Smith is a Board-certified orthopedic surgeon, specializing in diseases of the bones and joints, with a particular interest in athletics and sport-related injuries.
Dr. Smith is a graduate of Providence College and earned his Doctorate in Medicine from Georgetown University School of Medicine in Washington, DC. He completed Residency in Orthopedic Surgery at the University of Massachusetts in Worcester. Dr. Smith served as an orthopedic surgeon in the US Navy 6th Fleet during Operation Desert Storm and as Team Physician to the US Coast Guard Academy in Groton, CT.
Dr. Smith is a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgery (FAAOS). In addition, he is a member of the New England Orthopedic Society (NEOS) and the Massachusetts Orthopaedic Association.
Special interests include knee surgery and knee replacements and shoulder surgery, including sports injuries related to throwing and overhead athletics. He has coached a variety of youth sports and is currently the team physician for Durfee High School.
Dr. Smith sees patients at the Prima CARE Orthopedics office on Pleasant Street in Fall River.
Dr. Smith, along with Physical Therapists Jae Sherry and Joshua Gurney, offer a Runner's Clinic every month.
