REVIEW USMeet Joseph Zhou, PhD, MD
Dr. Joseph Zhou is a Board-certified specialist in Allergy, Asthma & Immunology and is also Board-certified in Pediatrics. Dr. Zhou received his Doctor of Medicine from Xian Medical University in Xian, China, and his PhD in Nutritional Science from Massey University in New Zealand.
Dr. Zhou completed a Residency in Pediatrics at Cooper University Hospital, UMDNJ, in Camden, New Jersey, and a Clinical Fellowship in Allergy and Immunology at Boston Children’s Hospital (Harvard Medical School). He was a Research Fellow and then a member of the Research Faculty in the Rheumatology, Allergy, and Immunology Division at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at Boston University Medical Center. Most recently, Dr. Zhou practiced Allergy and Immunology in Rhode Island before joining Prima CARE as the Director of the Division of Allergy & Immunology.
Dr. Zhou is a Fellow of the American College of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology (FACAAI), a member of the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology, and a member of the New England Society of Allergy. He has co-authored over 20 articles that have appeared in the Journal of Experimental Medicine, European Journal of Immunology, Annals of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology, Immunity, Molecular Biosystem, Mucosal Immunology, and the Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology. He has presented numerous scientific papers and has regularly given professional and community-based lectures.
Dr. Zhou’s professional interests include, but are not limited to:Rhinitis (allergic rhinitis or hay fever, non-allergic rhinitis, nasal polyps),Asthma and chronic cough,Food allergy,Atopic dermatitis (eczema), Urticaria (hives), Angioedema (swelling),Drug allergy (penicillin or other antibiotics, local anesthetics, aspirin),Eosinophilic diseases of gastrointestinal tract (EoE),Allergy immunotherapy (allergy shots and allergy drops),Anaphylaxis,Immunodeficiency (recurrent infections, hypogammaglobulinemia).He is particularly interested in individualized and evidence-based medicine. As the Director of the Prima CARE Allergy & Immunology Division, he sees patients in consultation for a variety of allergy-related conditions.

Dr. Zhou is available to see patients of all ages for outpatient consultation in his office in Building 1 on the main Prima CARE campus in Fall River. He is an affiliate of the Steward Health Care Network and Saint Anne's Hospital.
